birthday :: incognito

It was my husband’s birthday on Friday. He grew up in a culture where they are not a big thing, and although he has enjoyed me spoiling him over the past few years (that’s what I hope, anyway), this year he requested no celebrations.
Alright, maybe a nice breakfast, I thought to myself.
“And don’t get up early and make a special breakfast”, he said.

So we just had an ordinary day. Kaya made a birthday card and brought it over when he came into the bedroom to say good morning.
We had a normal breakfast. I just happened to have bought a favourite cheese and crumpets. Just by chance.
We had some tea in the afternoon. Kaya and I just happened to have baked a favourite cake in the morning. Because we felt like it.
In the evening, my husband and I cooked a special meal after Kaya had gone to bed. You see, we never celebrated our wedding anniversary this year, so it was about time.
And at night, there happened to be a ‘new’ pair of pyjama bottoms where the old ones had been left in the morning. Because my husband needed some new pyjamas.
Nothing to do with a birthday at all.

A few more words on the pyjamas bottoms: I used a duvet cover that we hadn’t used in ages, and an existing pair of pyjama bottoms to trace. As it turns out, this technique works just as well for grown up pants as for tiny ones!
It only took about one nap time to sew it up, from start to finish. They are perfectly soft and I didn’t have to waste time washing the fabric first – and there’s enough left for at least one more pair.
When is my birthday?

    • Ha, yes maybe! Last year my husband baked me a cake for the first time ever! He had to come for advice every five minutes, but it turned out really nice, so I’m full of hope. :)
