Tuesdays we go swimming. It’s one of Kaya’s favourite things.
Usually we walk back home after swimming. Some days, when it’s raining or we have shopping to carry, we take a bus. Like today. Only today, we missed the bus.
Twice.
It’s an hourly bus. And the second time we were on time!
The last straw was when we got on a different bus that I thought could take us at least part of the way, only to find it was going in the wrong direction.
Close to tears (both of us. For Kaya, going on the bus is a treat. I just wanted to get home. At least I can blame the pregnancy hormones for being weepy these days!) we got off the bus. Instead of waiting another hour, we started walking.
We had no buggy, no scooter. Facing an hour’s walk (at Kaya’s speed) I had to make and effort to find things to be grateful for.
I am so grateful I found some!
We lost an afternoon that I was going to spend packing boxes.
We gained time. Spare time waiting.
Time Kaya spent chasing pigeons, time I spent watching him from a bench by the church, in the sunshine. Time spent eating pretzels instead of rushing from one place to another.
Walking around the town for one of the last times before we move at the end of this week.
I was thankful for the beautiful weather, for the mild and sunny day. For dandelions to blow. For the little shop halfway to our house, where we could stop for ice cream (an adequate alternative to a bus ride, apparently). For a little guy who walked with me for an hour without complaining (and yes, a wonderfully easy bedtime tonight).
Linking up with Rachel today.

I’m glad you found the bright side of taking the long way home. And I’m glad there was ice cream. xoR
..as I was walking I thought ‘I hope Rachel has a reality check today..’ – thank you!
Hi there,
I’ve been following your blog for a little bit now and it’s always lovely to see you highlighted on my Google Reader. All your adventures and knitting are inspiring (I am a Canadian based in the UK, too).
I am sorry to hear you had one of those days – I’d be close to tears myself! I can totally relate as our buses over here are one every hour too! However, it’s wonderful that you counted all the blessings and things to be grateful for
Good luck with the move.
Bright blessings
Renee
Hello Renee,
thank you so much for your comment. I’m so glad you’re stopping by!
Where in the UK are you? It must feel so small compared to Canada
xx
So glad you were able to turn the time around and enjoy it a bit.
