“And out of the confusion
Where the river meets the sea
Something new would arrive
Something better would arrive”
(Sting, I was brought to my senses)
Those lines in that song jumped out at me today, while I was singing along and cutting up root vegetables for a warming soup. As the river flows, there is change, and new beginnings.
Calendars with Kaya’s drawings were part of our homemade Christmas presents this ear, and one was for us to keep. So today I started by copying the birthdays and other important dates into the new calendar, and it feels like we really are in 2014 now.
We took our Christmas cards down today, and I made a pile of those that I will write a reply to. A sort of post-Christmas card, in lieu of actually sending Christmas cards which somehow didn’t really happen that much this time round..
And thank-you cards, because there are some very lovely people that thought of the kids, and will get a note dictated by Kaya and (rather randomly) a drawing of Big Ben in their cards. (Sorry if I gave away the surprise for anyone!)
I am starting the year with the best intentions to be accompanied by Amanda’s Prompt-a-day – and still have to find the right time to Unravel the year ahead.
But we’ve made a good start.
Just writing a few words in the journal, the calendar, a note to a friend, it’s all a beginning.
