Michaelmas 2014

This year, we made dragon bread using the recipe from Baking Bread with Children. There is pumpkin in it, cinnamon and nutmeg, and a belly full of secret raisin and walnut treasures. Delicious! (And only the tail and a bit of dragon wing left now.)

In lieu of our own harvest to gather, there was hedgerow blackberry picking and conker finding (the latter being considerably more successful than the first). And a bit of knitting time for this Mama while the little people were busy eating picking berries.

When I first came to England (that’s eleven years ago now, oh my), Michaelmas was the first festival I celebrated. The songs, the harvest, the story of St. Michael and the Dragon, they all have a special place in my heart.
Each year, there are new battles to face, and each year, there is courage to be gained.

Happy Michaelmas
